Patient Investor If COL keeps buying into TTB iCap dream, why shouldn't we?
In fact icap share price performance is boosting COL own portfolio performance, provide them a beautiful story to feed to their institutional investors.

Kevin Tam With the performance of ICAP in past 12-18 months, the NAV can reach 4.40-4.50 in 6 months time (provided SP 500 maintains n no collapse) n more retail investors n COL continue to buying in, the gap should be able to narrow to just 10-13% in next few months....Those very pessimistic about ICAP, it is strange that they r still holding ICAP shares or even more strange that they r not holding any shares but come here to talk bad about Icap...

FastMoney666 To many may still thinking current situation is status quo, the implication of Pop Investment lost the case will have the implication of Foreign ownership may be capped at 20%....those still thinking COL or foreign investors will continue to buy, you may need to digest this latest development.

TTB did not publish this in a high profile manners is a smart thing to do. Else when panic sets in all rushing out at the same exit door, iCap price will undo all the advances.
28/03/2024 10:48 AM
FastMoney666 One of the things that may directly impact COL will be their voting rights....even they have more than 20%....their voting rights will be clipped. If I'm in COL shoes, I certainly have no incentives to buy further.
28/03/2024 10:54 AM
human This fund never targeted foreign institutional fund.
Ttb mentioned Col buying causes the discount, he is not proven wrong.
If Col stop buying then discount reduces or go premium will proof him right.
Majority of retail investors at AGM boo when Col mentioned, the sentiment show Col stop buying or exit will be cheered.
28/03/2024 3:36 PM
FastMoney666 Time will tell............:)

See 22/3 189 k shares bought by COL and that large long green candle......for now many iCap shareholders that entered at lower prices are rejoicing.

Hope more water fish will take the bite.....
28/03/2024 3:53 PM
Patient Investor I bet COL will keeps buying even the 20% cap on voting rights is implemented.
Just work out how much COL make for the past one year will clearly see this.

Though the fund manager make it clear the fund is not intended for institution fund, but if the performance prevail, local institution will buy in.

Solving a problem demands handling the root cause and not just the symptoms; the NAV discount is just a symptom of the underlying problem that your Fund needs the right type of shareowners, which it had for many years before the wrong type came in and caused the NAV discount to surface and persist.

By increasing your Fund's individual share ownership, we are addressing the root cause and finding a more lasting solution. Once again, do not let any investor who refuses to think and act like a share owner destroy a precious gem like your Fund.

Nothing to do with "root cause."

It is the nature of closed end fund to trade at a discount.

The huge discount that prevailed for many years in iCap was reflecting the poor performance of the fund in those years.

Many long term share owners were disappointed when the fund attempted to time the market, by keeping a lot of cash in anticipation of a big downturn.

4dview I like to see that John Dough and TTB have keen interest in Chinese culture and especially in Daoist thinking.
However, I have not felt the Chinese humility demeanour in their writing or talk. Instead the western aloofness and arrogance seem to prevail. That is what has piqued quite a few forum participants here, from what I see.

Patient Investor For iCap shareholders who want to sell, take advantage of the situation by queuing at high price as close as possible to NAV, or even at a premium.

Why?
1. Despite being red-flagged on governance and lousy fund management/policy in i3 forum on daily basis, COL is still buying.
2. Since COL keeps buying even the row with the fund manner, it means they need to buy or they recognise TTB stockpick skill, so take advantage when demand is there.
3. If someone is bidding for the rights to slaughter our goose and if lucky we get a fair portion of the egg but none after that, wont you want a premium to it? So never sell at a discount price.
4. ICAP portfolio is demonstating very good growth.
5. The court ruling is favouring iCAP, which in a way brings advantage to normal shareholder when it comes to distribution.
03/04/2024 1:56 PM
Patient Investor If someone wants your shares, and you reject their offer price, what they can do is to manipulate the price movement in hope your level confidence get affected and end up giving up your shares bit by bit.

Of course, they can also find someone to sweet talk you to sell or bad talk what you have in hand.

In fact, Liezi 列子, the leading Daoist scholar after Laozi but before Zhuangzi, has deep observation into the universe and had pointed out natural phenomena like movement of celestial bodies, earthquake and boundlessness of the universe. From observing the ways of nature, and knowing the insurmountable power of nature, Daoist then tried to formulate a way to life which adapts to nature.

Sslee I wrote in my 2013 New Year Sharing: Have you ever wondered what life is about?
I recalled watching a TV program: The Journey of Civilization. The guest speaker said,

“From Confucianism, (Ruler has ruler responsibility, subject has subject responsibility, father has father responsibility, and son has son responsibility.) I learn to take on responsibility. (拿得起)

From Buddhism, (Things are in flux never still. It’s begins from emptiness, will end in emptiness and reemerge from emptiness. Life is cycles of birth and death until Enlightenment and Nirvana.) I learn when to relinquish my responsibility and let other take over. (放得下)

From Taoism, (Heaven and Earth are one. Nature and Man are one.) I learn to live with nature, at peace and at ease with myself and others.” (看得开)
How beautifully and elegantly this speaker summary what life is about?

As Chinese Malaysian we were brought up with the influence of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism which are more about philosophy, spirituality, way of life and tradition belief/practices than religion.

JohnD0ugh An airstrike on the Iranian embassy's compound in Damascus Syria killed seven Iranian officers on Monday, 1st Apr 2024. One of Iran's top soldiers, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) was killed. Blamed by Iran on Israel, the attack was a rare military strike on diplomatic premises anywhere in the world and marked a significant escalation in the Middle East crisis.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed revenge. The airstrike on Iran's embassy is a serious escalation of the Israel-Palestine crisis since the eruption of the Israel-Palestine Crisis in Oct last year. The most urgent impact is on crude oil price.

Crude oil price has been rising in recent months, due to both supply and demand factors. The Middle East Crisis and the Ukrainian Crisis have both impacted supply, in addition to the output cut by OPEC+. Demand has also held up well. Crude oil price is now at a critical juncture and looks poised to rally further . Its monthly MACD is turning bullish at its crucial zero-line.

A surge to test its previous high of US$145-150 per barrel or higher is likely. All it needs is a little matchstick to flare up the many tinderboxes, created by the United States. A surge in crude oil price in 2024 will make US monetary policy very complicated. It will quickly bring back soaring US inflation and the US economy and stock markets will crash. For the United States, it will be a well-deserved self-inflicted wound.

For now, i Capital retains its immediate-term outlook of the KLCI at a range of 1,460 to 1,600. See Stop Press for the latest. Subject to developments in the Middle East, i Capital is retaining its short-term outlook of the KLCI at a range of 1,400 to 1,900. Two issues ago, the medium-term and long-term outlook of i Capital was revised to 2,500 - 3,000.

Sslee Any reasons why US economy and stock markets will crash if crude oil surge to test its previous high of US$145-150 per barrel or higher when US is net exporter?

Petroleum products net exports/Gross crude oil imports. The US will remain a net exporter of petroleum products through 2050, according to the 2023 Annual Energy Outlook (AEO2023) from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).23 Mar 2023

These 2 factors alone put pressure on stock market.

JohnD0ugh The performance of icapital.biz Berhad has been outstanding, not just in terms of its NAV but also its share price over many years.

Whether it is low inflation or high inflation, whether it is rising or falling interest rate, icapital.biz Berhad has consistently delivered superior returns to its shareowners and is still boasting of a substantial cash-laden war chest.

Let me recapitulate a fundamentally important point. A well-managed closed-end fund like icapital.biz Berhad is an excellent investment product for individual investors, especially during tumultuous times like now.

However, after so many decades, there is sadly still only one closed-end fund listed on Bursa Malaysia. The world-class London, Sydney and New York stock exchanges abound with hundreds of closed-end funds. Their investors have so many choices in terms of investment products.
