Business Background Southern Steel Bhd is an investment holding company, which engages in the manufacture, sale, and trade of billets, steel bars, and wire rods. Business activity of the firm is operated through two reportable segments namely Steel Products, and Investment Holding and Others. Its products include carbon steel wire rods, steel pipes, drawn wires, tire bead wires, wire mesh, wire ropes, and galvanized wires and strands. Geographically, the group has its business in the regions of Malaysia, ASEAN countries and in other regions of which most of the revenue is derived from Malaysia region.

The steel products manufacturer advanced 10.05%, or 9.5 sen to RM1.04 with 1.9 million shares done. It has appreciated some 20.4% so far this year. In the third quarter ended March 31, Southern Steel posted a net profit of RM40.83mil against a net loss of RM37.58mil in the same quarter last year. Its revenue rose 4.87% to RRM493.27mil in the quarter ended March 31 from RM470.36mil previously. In the first nine months to March 31, it posted a net profit of RM23.45mil versus a net loss of RM418.12mil. However, its revenue for the period was 19.3% lower at RM1.38bil from RM1.71bil previously.
