Income Anwar's appointment as PM makes headlines worldwide
Author: savemalaysia | Publish date: Thu, 24 Nov 2022, 7:34 PM

KUALA LUMPUR: News of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's appointment as Malaysia's 10th Prime Minister has gone worldwide.

Major news outlets around the world highlighted the appointment — marking the end of a political impasse following the 15th General Election (GE15) last Saturday which resulted in an unprecedented hung Parliament, which also received a wide international media coverage. It also marked the end of almost three decades of struggle for Anwar to see this day.

Anwar, 75, was appointed by King Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah after His Majesty chaired the Malay Rulers' special meeting at the Istana Negara this morning.

Among media organisations that flashed the news on Anwar's appointment were BBC, CNN, Xinhua, CGTN, Nikkei Asia, Indonesia's Antara News and Singapore's CNA. Reuters, Al Jazeera and other international news agencies too delved into the appointment.

drkelvin20 Its a very good news GENM failed the MACAU Bid, as it does not have to fork out billions investment for MACAU bid.

Long term wise, it could be good also, as every investment comes with risk. Macau is a very highly competitive market, no one can guarantee GENM will be sure win in long term having succeeded in bidding for GENM. What if GENM make loss?

So think positively, it can be good news too that GENM failed the MACAU bid.

28/11/2022 3:17 PM
drkelvin20 GIven the notorious human trafficking scandal in Cambodia, GENM should attract many more tourists in near future...and the fact Federal and Pahang state goverment formed, the situation may be favourable for GENM. The QR report aleady show profit...Things can become better and better for GENM, especially if China open border.
28/11/2022 3:20 PM
drkelvin20 Now more and more protest in CHina, this will pressurize the chinese giverment, soon we can expect a full open border, this will be very good for GENM very soon.

Disclaimer: Just my opinion. not a buy call or sell call.

Income KUALA LUMPUR: Fitch Solutions Country Risk & Industry Research has slightly raised Malaysia's score on its Short-Term Political Risk Index to 67.3 (out of 100), from 64.8 previously, to reflect the progress made in the formation of the new government, which has eased some political uncertainty.

The firm said, nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the PH-led government can implement policies and if prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim can prove that he has the support of more than 112 members of parliament (MPs).

"It also remains unclear which parties or alliances will be ultimately involved in the ruling coalition," Fitch Solutions noted.

Further, Fitch Solutions also noted that although Anwar has been appointed the prime minister, he will have to garner and maintain support from parties with diverse interests, which will likely weigh on the policymaking process.

Additionally, the leader faces a challenge from rival Muhyiddin Yassin, leader of the opposition Perikatan Nasional (PN), who claims to have obtained signed declarations of 115 lawmakers and is demanding that Anwar prove his majority in parliament.

Anwar has responded by saying that he plans to test lawmakers' support for his leadership with a confidence vote on December 19.

During this, the PH-led government also plans to table the 2023 budget, which was introduced before the election was called but has yet to be passed, the firm noted.
