i3gambler 602 posts | Posted by i3gambler > Jan 29, 2023 11:40 AM | Report Abuse For calendar year 2012, Total net Dividend: Cash 0.06 + DRIP 0.45 Forget about the DRIP, DY was less than 1%. For calendar year 2022. Total Dividend: Cash 0.435 + DRIP 0.145 Forget about the DRIP, DY now is 0.435 / 8.74 = 5% Significant improvement, time to invest MAYBANK now. Regarding DRIP, 1) If you insist it is Dividend, then it is followed by a mini scale of Right Issue, at the end you do not receive Cash. 2) Or you can treat it as mini scale of Bonus Issue, you receive no Cash. 3) If you think that you can sell off the extra units from DRIP, then what is the difference from mini scale of Bonus, you also sell off the extra bonus units. |

Pinky 2657 posts | Posted by Pinky > Jan 29, 2023 12:36 PM | Report Abuse I never take DRIP. What for getting the odd lots. And it messes up my dividend yield calculations. Just take the full cash divvy and assume that there's a mini rights issue which dilutes my % holding by a tiny bit. |
stkoay 5101 posts | Posted by stkoay > Jan 29, 2023 12:52 PM | Report Abuse Yes, Pinky is correct on the tiny % of dilution and a good option/method of calculating dividend yield. |
stkoay 5101 posts | Posted by stkoay > Jan 29, 2023 1:21 PM | Report Abuse I used to take full DRIP, to average down my cost (which is now at 7.896) and use the cash portion to calculate my dividend yield. .....meaning, if say, the company declares 58 sen, comprising 50 sen cash and 8 sen DRIP ....then my net dividend will be 500 divide by 7896 = 6.33%....and my cost of shares is reduced by 8 sen to become 7.816 after dividend..... ....and if next year the company declares the same, then my net yield will be 6.39% due to lower cost of shares...... |
|
stkoay 5101 posts | Posted by stkoay > Jan 29, 2023 1:21 PM | Report Abuse .....and I also have the option of taking 580 in cash to yield a return of 7.34% while my cost remained the same and a tiny % dilution vs the increased numbers of company shares. |
stkoay 5101 posts | Posted by stkoay > Jan 29, 2023 1:22 PM | Report Abuse ...but I opted to take full DRIP to average down cost.....holding MBB is a long long term investment for its consistent dividend, not for short term capital appreciation.... ....so, make sure this is the right stock for you before buying... .....for high beta, go buy penny stocks or gloves.....stay away from this No.1 blue chips. |
i3gambler 602 posts | Posted by i3gambler > Jan 29, 2023 1:25 PM | Report Abuse If you invest for long term, say for retirement, I think odd lot is not a big problem. After all, the biggest odd lot at anytime is only 99 units, or about RM865, OK lah. My consideration: 1) High much the discount is? 2) Is it enough to cover the RM10 Revenue Stamp? The latest DRIP issue price was RM8.38, Check the market price on 22.09.2022 was RM8.71, The discount was 8.71 - 8.38 = 0.33, Revenue stamp / Discount = 10.00 / 0.33 = 30 units, If we hold only 3600 units Maybank. Our entitlement = 3600 * 0.07 / 8.38 = 30 units. Better take Cash. Anyway, Maybank announced on 13.10.2022 that the take up rate for latest DRIP was 78%. |
prudentinvestor 2331 posts | Posted by prudentinvestor > Jan 29, 2023 2:43 PM | Report Abuse I have never subscribed for any drp shares for the past three years. It is so difficult to make even RM50 from each issue. |
Pinky 2657 posts | Posted by Pinky > Jan 29, 2023 6:57 PM | Report Abuse Ya, to me to subscribe DRIP is a hassle. The tiny % dilution is not much of a concern. I'd rather take full cash divvy |
Darren Woo 18 posts | Posted by Darren Woo > Jan 29, 2023 7:48 PM | Report Abuse @i3gambler I agree with the calculation on the discount - over the long term, the compounding on your dividend collected on top of shareholding compounding effect will be much stronger |

prudentinvestor 2331 posts | Posted by prudentinvestor > Jan 30, 2023 3:43 PM | Report Abuse Put it bluntly, DRP issues are only tailored for big investors like ASB, EPF, PNB etc who hold tens of millions of shares. Small investors who have only a couple of thousand shares are unable to benefit anything. |

stkoay 5101 posts | Posted by stkoay > Jan 30, 2023 7:40 PM | Report Abuse https://www.theedgemarkets.com/node/653446 KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 30): Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) said its investment in Adani Enterprises’ secondary share offering were “client subscriptions” and, as such, there won’t be any financial impact to the banking group. “We are aware of the media reports and we do not respond to speculation. However, we would like to clarify that there is no financial impact to Maybank as the subscription to Adani Enterprises were client subscriptions and fully funded by client funds,” it said in an emailed response to questions from The Edge, “Due to client confidentiality, we are unable to provide details,” it added. Maybank’s clarification came after various media reported last week that Maybank Securities was allocated a stake in Adani Enterprises’ US$2.5 billion (RM10.6 billion) secondary share offering. |

prudentinvestor 2331 posts | Posted by prudentinvestor > Jan 31, 2023 7:30 PM | Report Abuse "maybank share keeps dropping i told you so...." @goldenegg454, you claimed to have bought Maybank less than three weeks ago at RM8.82. Knowing that it would drop, why did you buy Maybank? You buy a counter when you have the confidence that it is moving up or is about to declare a fat dividend, not when it is about to drop. How to make money this way? |

Philip ( buy what you understand) 4692 posts | Posted by Philip ( buy what you understand) > Feb 1, 2023 1:30 PM | Report Abuse the funny thing if we think about it, DPS | DY | Payout % 48.00 Cent | 5.75% | 48.61% - PCHEM 57.36 Cent | 6.56% | 85.10% - Maybank MBB is giving out 85.1% of its profits and can only give 57.36 cents of profits to shareholders, while pchem only gives out half its profits at 48.6% and still pay out 48 cents, the difference is pchem is selling to the entire south east asia while mbb is only allowed to do business mainly in malaysia. Pchem can still grow much much more while pay out a good dividend with more money to spare for growth and is only 66 billion, which is a fraction of the value of its worldwide competitiors with incredible profit margins and lack of competitors. if korea can give 10 year bonuses to its refinery staff, how about pchem? |
prudentinvestor 2331 posts | Posted by prudentinvestor > Feb 1, 2023 3:59 PM | Report Abuse Investors are giving Maybank a higher valuation than Petronas Chem for some reasons. Maybank's earnings over the past 12/13 years has been very consistent, averaging around 70 sen a share. Dividend per share has never dipped below 50 sen, averaging about 56 sen a share. PChem earned only 20 sen share in 2020 and 35 sen in 2019. Its eps exceeded 90 sen in 2021 and I expect it to exceed 90 sen again in 2022, all because of high oil prices. DPS for 2019 was 18 sen and for 2020 was 12 sen. Just can't compare with Maybank. |

It has only dropped by 8 sen a share and you claimed Maybank has crashed. Dropping to RM7 a share in a matter of days can be considered a crash. Almost 100% of Maybank investors over the past 3 years have made money. |
