KUALA LUMPUR: MISC Bhd, one of the largest single owner-operators of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers in the world, has announced the addition of two new generation LNG carriers, Seri Damai and Seri Daya, to its fleet.
MISC said the two 174,000-cubic meter LNG carriers are equipped with smart and sustainable technologies built by Samsung Heavy Industries Co Ltd (SHI).
Upon their delivery, the new LNG carriers will be on long-term charters to ExxonMobil's wholly-owned subsidiary SeaRiver Maritime LLC (SRM) and will be managed by Eaglestar Shipmanagement (S) Pte Ltd (Eaglestar).
MISC president and group chief executive officer Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam said the delivery of Seri Damai and Seri Daya marked a strong start to the year and a significant milestone in MISC's partnership with SRM.
"My appreciation goes out to our shipbuilder, SHI, the in-house project management team from Eaglestar, the Gas Assets and Solutions (GAS) business team, Class Society ABS, and all partners and collaborators involved in the safe construction of these state-of-the-art LNG carriers," he said in a statement.
Seri Damai and Seri Daya added to MISC's fleet strength, which currently totals 31 LNG carriers for MISC's gas business, in addition to six very large ethane carriers (VLECs) and two LNG floating storage units (FSUs), which have a combined deadweight tonnage (dwt) capacity of over two million tonnes.
