He joined the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) in 1979 as a Technical Professional Officer in the Industrial Studies Division. He was attached to MIDA Sabah from 1982-1985. From 1986 to 1990 he served as the Deputy Director in MIDA London. Later he was attached to the Transport and Machinery Industries Division as a Deputy Director. From 1996 to 2001 he served as the Director in MIDA Paris. Soon after that he served as the Director in MIDA London. He returned to MIDA HQ in early 2005 as the Director of the Electronics Industries Division. In late 2005, he was given the task to head the Foreign Investment Promotion Division in MIDA headquarters; among others his responsibilities include overall planning, implementation and co-ordination of investment promotion strategies to attract foreign direct investment into Malaysia. In March 2007, he was promoted to the post of Senior Director, Investment Promotion which is responsible in the overall investment promotion activities particularly in promoting foreign and domestic investments as well as cross border investments. In April 2008, he was again promoted to the post of the Deputy Director General II and subsequently to the Deputy General I of MIDA in June 2008. He was in this post till his retirement on 14 September 2011.
