KUALA LUMPUR: The King consented to the dissolution of parliament as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasted no massive floods would take place before early November.
Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said there was still a functioning government should floods occur.
"The Yang di-Pertuan Agong hopes the Election Commission will hold the 15th General Election (GE15) soonest before the northeast monsoon that is forecasted to start in mid-November.
"What is important is that the government is still functioning should the floods take place.
"Only parliament has been dissolved, but other agencies such as the Natural Disaster Management Agency, Social Welfare Department, Health Ministry, Fire and Rescue Department are still functioning, and the floods machinery and assistance have been prepared," he said in a Facebook post today.
However, it is uncertain whether the post was uploaded by Najib or his social media administrators.
Meanwhile, Najib said the King's disappointment was not towards a general election that might happen during the floods, as the King was briefed that GE15 could be held before the monsoon starts.
"He was disappointed by the political developments in the country where the 12 Perikatan Nasional ministers sent documents to him without the knowledge of the prime minister.
"Also, by the the actions of (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin (Yassin) who as the National Recovery Council chairman who criticised the government and called for a snap poll after claiming the government failed to revive the economy.
"But now, Pakatan Harapan/ PN is still trying to spin the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's disappointment."
