GE15: Will the party you vote for betrayed your mandate?

Author:   |    Publish date:

Dear all,

The people mandate we the voters gave to PH at GE14 to form a new government for a 5 year term was cut short to a mere 22 months. Lawmakers/MPs from BN, PAS, Bersatu and a faction led by PKR’s then deputy president Azmin Ali successfully played the Malay and Muslim sentiment playbook; “politics of hatred, politics of fear, politic of racial and religious bigotry, as well as widespread corruption” met at Sheraton hotel to ostensibly push a political coup, resulting in PM Tun Mahathir’s resignation on 24th Feb 2020

On 29th Feb 2020, a statement from the palace said Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah had conducted interviews with all MPs last week and found that 72-year-old Muhyiddin – a top member of Mahathir’s Bersatu party – had the confidence of a majority of lawmakers, and hence was to be given the chance to form the next government and 72-year-old Muhyiddin will be sworn in on Sunday as Malaysia 8th PM

On 16th August, Bersatu led PN’s government PM Muhyiddin and his cabinet resigned en bloc. A backdoor PN's government formed as a result of “Sheraton Move '' betrayal that ousted the 22 months PH’s government came full cycle and was ousted by betrayal of UMNO when UMNO MPs withdrew their support for Bersatu PM Muhyiddin. Subsequently Ismail Sabri (UMNO Vice-President) was appointed as the 9th Prime Minister of Malaysia by Yang di-Pertuan Agong after being satisfied that he had commanded the confidence of the majority in Parliament, with a total of 114 from 220 members of the Dewan Rakyat nominating him in accordance with Article 40(2)(a) and Article 43(2)(a).

On July 29 2022, Malaysian Parliament Passes Bill Outlawing Party-Hopping
Under the new law, any lawmaker who decides to change parties after being elected would lose their position in parliament. This includes those who stand as independents and later decide to join a political party.

The Anti-Party Hopping Bill was one of the key points in the Memorandum of Understanding on Transformation and Political Stability that was signed last September between Ismail Sabri’s administration and the opposition Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, which won the 2018 election but collapsed amid backroom maneuvering in February 2020.

The main point of the Anti-Party Hopping Bill is to preserve and protect the mandate or trust of the people who elect their MP from betraying that trust (Once and for all cleansed Malaysia politic of political frog culture)

Before you go for voting come this Saturday, the question begged answering is will the Anti-Party Hopping Bill mean to do what it intends to do; that is to prevent the party you vote from betraying your mandate.

Let’s look into recent GE15 news:
By Intan Farhana Zainul & Chester Tay | theedgemarkets.com | 2022-11-16 14:39:33
KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 16): Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said any parties that wished to cooperate with Barisan Nasional (BN) can negotiate with the coalition after the outcome of the 15th general election (GE15).

“We have to wait until after the election. After a decision is made and there is a suggestion to collaborate then we will bring this to the (Umno) Supreme Council level," he said in response to reporters' question on whether Umno-led BN would accept PAS as a partner.

“Any collaboration with any parties must be decided by the council,” he said at a meet-and-greet session at the Sri Perlis Flats in Keramat on Tuesday (Nov 15) night, together with BN's candidate for Titiwangsa Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

According to Ismail Sabri, PAS should consider joining another coalition since the party currently did not seem to enjoy the right to voice its views in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

So before even the ink on Anti-Party Hopping Bill have time to dry the caretaker PM Ismail Sabri already make an invitation to PAS to join BN after GE15 and as a formality the UMNO supreme council will discussed and decided/approved PAS application to join BN.

Note: A major loophole that can be exploited is that anti party-hopping provisions cannot be invoked when a political party joins a coalition or leaves a coalition to join another. The exclusion of coalition hopping is provided in the illustration for the new Article 49A in the explanatory statement, which reads:

“A member of Party A who is a member of the House of Representatives shall not cease to be a member of that House, if Party A, who is a member of a coalition of political parties, leaves that coalition whether or not Party A joins another coalition of political parties or forms a new coalition of parties.”

My dear friends,
“KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — An initiative to monitor hate speech on social media during campaigning said it found that race-based narratives especially espousing “Ketuanan Melayu” or Malay supremacy have ramped up ahead of the 15th general election (GE15).

The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ)’s Social Media Monitoring Initiative said its interim findings for the campaigning period between October 20 and November 15 also pointed to PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang as what it called “one of the key amplifiers of divisive, racist, intolerant and hate-based narratives”.

“Race and religion-based hate speech have been weaponised to create fear and antagonism against the Chinese, thus attempting to influence Malay-Muslim voters to vote against Pakatan Harapan (PH) if they want their Malay and religious rights not to be eroded and influenced by non-Muslims.

“It continues to narrow the space for more inclusive politics in our democracy,” said Universiti Sains Malaysia’s communications expert Mahyuddin Ahmad in a statement.

It pointed to a remark by Hadi, who is contesting in Marang under Perikatan Nasional (PN), for using a dog-whistle remark calling for violence against certain ethnic groups, with an anti-DAP social media post invoking God’s power in punishing certain ethnic groups by eliminating them.

This remark was also flagged by #KamiNampak another initiative to monitor the use of racial and religious rhetoric in the 15th general election, which yesterday categorised it as “public incitement to genocide” as it contains elements that justify the erasure of individuals based on identity-based characteristics.

CIJ also highlighted other PAS campaigners such as Sik PAS Youth chief Mohd Shahiful Nasir Mhd Nasir, as well as celebrity supporters like Jamal Abdillah and Zul Huzaimy for using inflammatory narratives and resorting to trigger fear among Muslim voters, inciting violence against “infidels”, and calling for Malays to unite and fight against the ethnic Chinese and Indians.

The initiative highlighted how Hadi and PAS have used a tactic it called “red-tagging” by continuing to accuse rivals DAP of being Communists, citing alleged atheism and “promotion” of the queer community.”

My personal opinion:
For me, no way am I going to vote for PAS, not a million years. So my friends just think, if you vote for BN component party MCA or MIC will your vote also mean a vote for PAS since BN caretaker PM Ismail Sabri already make an invitation to PAS to join BN after GE15 and as a formality the UMNO supreme council will discussed and decided/approved PAS application to join BN

Thank you
PS:  Please vote wisely with care “Demi Negaraku yang tercinta”
